Van Der Meulen's definitions are basic and copied from other sources. They are incomplete definitions that have been superceeded long ago by many publications. The book is, however, an interesting look into an abbreviated history of the definitions used in system safety summarized in a nice hardcover edition for reference. If only a more modern edition existed...
