Product Description
Welcome to the exciting world of forensic investigation - the science of solving crimes. This book introduces the field of forensic anthropology, where scientists and criminal investigators use the human skeleton to solve some of the world's most mysterious and violent crimes. From the nineteenth-century murderer who boiled his wife in a vat of acid, to the modern-day pig farmer accused of murdering more than sixty women, forensic anthropology shows how even the tiniest fragments of bones can reveal the identities of victims as well as killers. From mass-transit accidents to war to genocide and terrorist attacks, this science also pieces together the most scattered and seemingly unidentifiable remains, bringing closure to those left behind. Using recent finds such as a bags of bones in the woods, or the five-thousand-year-old skeleton of a victim of foul play, forensic detectives use the smallest clues, revealing a massive crime-recording device: the human body. See how the dead do tell tales to those who know how to listen.

This book is a great resource for anyone wanting to learn more about the the core components and research topics within the field of Forensic Anthropology. If your are considering taking a class or pursuing a career in either Forensic Anthropology or Physical/Biological Anthropology, then buy this book right now! You won't regret it. It's the only book I know of that covers everything from sexing the skeleton to traum to mumification to bioarchaeology to much, much more. Each sub-category within the field of Forensic Anthropology is masterfully summerized in a couple pages with fantastic colored phots and case-studies to help the reader make sense of the the text. Originally the book was written for high-school students, but don't let that fool you. I'm in Grad School studying Foresnsic Anthropology and this book is sitting on my bookshelf right next to a 400 page Forensic Anthro text full of words I have trouble just pronouncing. This is the book I turn to when I need a 2 - 3 minute refresher course on any of the sub-categories or terminology I haven't looked at in a while.
